Ephesus

Ancient Sardis, Lydian capital and city of King Croesus, and the historic Çakırağa Mansion

Sardis was the capital city of the wealthy ancient Lydian Kingdom. It was once home to King Croesus, who inspired the expression ‘as rich as Croesus’ by minting the first coin, and laid the foundations of our modern monetary system. You will visit the impressive grand synagogue and gymnasium, remnants of ancient workshops and the Temple of Artemis.

Later in the day, you will have a scenic drive through the fertile farm land to Çakırağa Mansion where you will observe the typical Turkish architecture of the late Ottoman period.

Walking: moderate

Your guide will meet you at the cruise port or at another location you choose, after which you will drive eastward toward Sardis.
