Islands were an exile place for several of the Byzantine royals, hence the name Princes' Islands. You will take the morning ferry to Prinkipo (Buyuk Ada), largest of the nine islands off the shores of Istanbul.
Through the years, Prinkipo turned into a weekend getaway address for the well to do residents of Istanbul – mostly non-muslims. Today, the island is full of such stately, historic wooden homes.
On the island, you can take a tour on a horse drawn carriage, or walk up to the Aya Yorgi Church and enjoy commanding views of the islands and Istanbul.
