& the nomads of the Taurus |

| This
tour requires longer, occasionally more strenuous walks, and
a number of days camping or home stays on the Taurus Mountains.
We provide the camping gear, other than personal items. On
the days we camp, we have picnic for lunch, and the cook that
goes along prepares dinner as we camp. |

1 --- Brief
orientation as we arrive in the region. We take an easier
walk to the Valley of Baglidere (1000 m./~3300 ft.) that has
some of the tallest fairy chimneys in the region.

2 --- Early
in the morning we climb up the castle of Uchisar for a panoramic
view of the area. We follow a narrow path through the vineyards
of Vasildere down to the Valley of Gemildere. One other path
used by the horse carts takes us to the monastic center of
Goreme (975 m.) with its impressive rock cut churches decorated
with frescoes.

3 --- Having
admired a spectacular view in the Valley of Kizilcukur and
Gulludere, we will be heading to the village of Cavusin. We
climb up the cliff next to this impressive rock village that
has a 6th century church dedicated to John the Baptist. A
narrow goat track leads us to a higher ground from where you
will be looking over the grandoise ancient troglodyte village
of Zelve. Then we walk through the amazing fairy chimney valley
of Devrent to the 13th century caravanserai, Sarihan.

4 --- We
cross Kizilirmak (Red River), the longest river in Turkey,
at the village of Sarihidir and make our way through fields
and vineyards to the hot springs of Bayramhacili for an unforgettable
swim in an open air hot water pool (38 C).

Trekking - Taurus Mountains --- |
day
5 --- We
leave Cappadocia for the Taurus Mountains. On the way, we
visit the underground city of Kaymakli or Derinkuyu and the
well preserved 11th century Byzantine Monastery Eski Gumus.
We start trekking at the gorge of Cimbar (1575 m.) and passing
by several natural caves we reach Teke Pinari (2400 m.) where
we camp for the night.

6 --- We
will ascend through the wilderness in the valley of Kuzey
until lake Dipsizgol (2800 m.) where you can dip in the fresh
waters of the lake. Later in the day we'll walk on the northern
flank of Mount Demirkazik (3766 m.), the highest peak of the
Taurus Mountains. We will descend through the Narpiz gorge
to Kara Yalak where we will overnight.

7 --- Our
next destination is the valley of Yalak through the mountain
pass known as Celikbuyduran (3400 m.). Optional climb to Mount
Emler (3723 m.). Descend to Yedi Goller for the camp site
next to nomad tents at 3100 m.

8 --- We'll
enjoy the day hiking around the several lakes the of the region.

9 --- By
the black nomad tents we will walk down through the valley
and the gorge of Hacar to the village of Barzama (1700 m.).

10 --- Following
a narrow path through cedar trees, we reach the crates of
Mount Divrik (2400 m.) and proceed through the wheat fields
to the village of Kapuzbasi (1000 m.). 5

by the river. |

11 --- The
impressive waterfalls on the mountain side is our next stop.
Crossing the river, we arrive at the village of Buyuk Cakir
where our tour ends.
