1 - Sarpi - Kutaisi --- In
the morning, we drive to the border gate of Sarpi. As we cross
the border, we visit the Gonio fortress from the 1st century
AD. After lunch in Batumi, we see the botanical gardens in
the outskirts of the city. Later in the day we drive to the
city of Kutaisi in the Imereti province for the Gelati Cathedral
from the 12th century - one of the earliest academies in Europe,
and the splendid Bagrati Cathedral. Both the Gelati and Bagrati
cathedrals are UNESCO world heritage sites. |

2 - Tbilisi --- Today
we visit the town of Gori, the center of Kartli region, and
Uplistsikhe cave town on the great Silk Road. This is an ancient
complex with several dwellings, wine cellars, bakeries, and
a three nave basilica church hewn out of rock. In Gori, we
see the Stalin Museum and his biggest statue still surviving
in the city center. On our way, to Tbilisi, we visit Ananuri
architectural complex that dates from the 17th century, overlooking
the Zhinvali reservoir. |

3 - Tbilisi --- We
discover old town Tbilisi on a walking tour. We visit Metekhi
church overlooking the river Mtkvari(13th C) and the statue
of King Vakhtang Gorgasali, founder of Tbilisi. Narikala Fortress
is one of the oldest fortifications in the city from the 4th
century. Sioni Cathedral dates back to the 7th century, this
is where the cross of St. Nino, who brought Christianity to
Georgia, is preserved. The ancient Synagogue and Anchiskhati
Church of the 6th century will conclude the tour. Later in
the day, we drive to the ancient capital of Georgia, Mtskheta,
which is 3000 years old. Jvari church from the 6th century
and the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century) are UNESCO
world Heritage sites. |

4 -Tbilisi --- Excursion
to Kakheti region, known as the wine country to the east of
Tbilisi. |

5 --- Drive
back to Sarpi border gate, or transfer to Tbilisi airport
for your return flight. |
