Istanbul Festival |
| Organised
for the first time in 1973 by IKSV, Istanbul Foundation for
Culture and Arts, the Istanbul Festival was accredited as
a member of European Festivals
Association in 1977. |

Opening
concert is in the church of Hagia Eirene in Topkapi Palace
grounds; Six German Dances by Mozart, from Borusan Istanbul
Philarmonic Orchestra. The orchestra conductor is Joseph Wolfe. |
| On
the 250th anniversary of his birth, Mozart's renowned opera,
“Abduction from the Seraglio” is to be staged
at Topkapi Palace, once again after 10 years, but this time
with a new, modern performance on June 22/24. |

the past, festival hosted world renowned artists & groups
from La Scala (Muti), to New York Philharmonic (Kurt Masur
& Zubin Mehta)... |

Vivaldi's Bajazed opera was selected for an exclusive performance,
and world premiere version was staged at Hagia Eirene for
the 27th International Music Festival. |

year, over 200 local and international performers will take
stage. |

| The
festival aims to promote the film industry in Turkey. Since
1989, two competitive sections - international & national
- take part in the festival program. Best film receives the
'Golden Tulip' award.

| Istanbul
Theater Festival |
| Since
1989, the theater festival incorporates studio performances,
seminars, and exhibitions, with the attendance of renowned performers
and theater groups from around the world. One other activity
this year is the Theater Olympics!

| The
theme of the Biennial this year is Istanbul, as a world city.
The biennial is organized simultaneously with the one in Van
Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, Holland.
