In
the heydays of the Roman Empire, Ephesus was the capital city
of the Asian Province. The ruins of this once prosperous city
still reflects the glory of the past.
Itinerary includes the site of Roman Ephesus, along with the
town of Selcuk - contemporary Ephesus. Also included in the
two day itinerary are the ancient Priene and Miletus, and
the perfectly preserved temple of Apollo. |

1 --- A
complete tour of Ephesus, including the site and the local
Museum of Archeology. During the Roman times Ephesus was one
of the largest metropolitans of the world, and the capital
city of the Asian Province. |
| As
we tour Ephesus you will be walking the streets that many
well known personalities walked, such as Socrates, Anthony
and Kleopatra, see the theater building where St. Paul preached,
Celcius library that is a masterpiece of Roman architecture. |
| You
will also enjoy the local museum in Selçuk where
a great collection of artifacts from the excavations in
Ephesus are exhibited. |

Later in the day we take you to the site of Temple of Artemis,
one of the seven wonders of the world, and on to Sirince,
a picturesque village further up the surrounding mountains.
The village is under state protection to preserve the authentic
arcitechure. |

2 --- Today
we visit the Temple of Apollo in Dydima, one of two major
oracle centers of the ancient world. The marble temple is
among the best preserved from its time. Included on our tour
are the two other Ionian cities, Priene and Miletus where
the 'grid plan' was used for the first time in history. The
unusual council house, theatre, the fascinating temple of
Athena, and house of Alexander the Great are among the buildings
you will see in Priene. |

Day
excursion to Pergamon to see the glorious Acropolis of the
Hellenistic times. The city was renowned for its library that
rivaled Alexandria.
Also included on tour is Asclepion, the ancient medical center
dedicated to God Asclepios. |

Half
day tour of ancient Sardis, Lydian capital and the city of
King Croesus. Visit the ancient Sinagogue and Gymnasium complex. |
From
April to November, there are scheduled ferries from Kusadasi
to the close by Greek Island of Samos.
Izmir international airport is one hour drive to Ephesus,
and provides easy connection to other destinations.
The port town of Kusadasi offers a large variety of accommodations
throughout the season. Depending on the availability, village
of Sirince & Selcuk is an alternative to Kusadasi stay. |
